I'm 60 and gave up competitive runnnig when I turned 50. I still do long runs (1 hour) three times a week), because I love it in the early hours. Reasons why I stopped competing: - Same people win your age group, race after race. They usually are 25-50 lbs lighter than me and that is because of my bone and body build. Gets boring seeing the same awardees. - Big race expenses. $100 plus to enter the big ones. Hotel costs, travel expenses, etc. Professionals run it now and it has become a bit much. These are my two biggest reasons for stopping. However, the love of runnnig remains. The feelings after a run are always there, the solitude that I crave and beauty I constantly see with nature are discovered on every run. I have all this, for the price of runnnig shoes.
